Book: Afflicted by Dorinda D. E. Nusum

Ladies,

Imagine you; staring at yourself in the mirror, smiling with eager anticipation. You’re having dinner with him tonight and you want to give him an evening to remember. As you gaze at yourself you think, “Everything must be perfect for tonight”. You’re hairdo is slammin’; your make-up is flawless; and the dress? Well, let’s just say the dress will inspire great imagination. You want to look sexy for him; not sleazy.

It’s a rare deal when a woman can look forward to an evening with her husband with so much excitement. As you sit next to him in the car, you look over and you realize just how fine ya man is and it warms your heart to know that he is yours…all yours!

You arrive at your destination, one of the most elegant and expensive restaurants in town. You are greeted at the door by a smiling host who checks for your name and then leads you to the back of the restaurant. All eyes are on the happy couple as you walk by. The host seats you at a very cozy and private corner table. You can hear the soft music playing in the background as your husband takes his seat opposite you, looks deeply into your eyes and smiles. “Just give us five minutes”, he tells the host. The host smiles and walks away.

Now you’re alone. Your husband slowly reaches out and takes your hand, holding it softly. He smiles at you warmly; you smile back but neither of you say a word. The mood is relaxed as the music continues to sooth you. The night has only just begun. You think to yourself, “Yes, this evening is definitely going to be one to remember”!

I WANT A DIVORCE!

*scratch the music*

Those were the first words from Michael’s mouth to his wife Tori, as she sat in stunned silence. Her romantic evening was going to be a memorable one indeed!

From the creative genius of Christian fiction Author and native Bermudian, Dorinda Nusum, comes Afflicted, a story so real and so powerful it left this writer firmly convinced that Nusum was not writing fiction, but a carefully detailed account of somebody’s real life!

Tori thought she had a good marriage; a former dancer turned professional career woman, she was very much in love with her husband, Michael until that evening when he broke her heart with a request for a divorce.

Follow Nusum as she takes you on an incredible journey of deceit, infidelity, betrayal, faith and redemption. You will be shocked as you delve deeper into this gripping novel and experience firsthand Nusum’s creative brilliance as she cunningly crafts the plot, which intermingles the lives of the characters… It’s how a real fiction novel should read!

Afflicted provokes deep meditation as the spiritual truths Nusum presents are powerful and convicting; a resounding “no” answer to the issue of “whether or not there can ever be hope for people who try to live their lives without God” This writer had to put the book down on several occasions just to reflect on the message, which in some respects, hit a little too close to home!

While some would say that Afflicted is a novel, which caters to women, it is actually a no-holds- barred look into the tragic world of failed relationships and the often disastrous fallout caused by the dysfunctional interactions between men and women. Afflicted issues a challenge to men to examine themselves and confront the haunting specter of one woman is never enough.

From Michael’s overbearing but discerning mother, Etta-Mae, to Tori’s outrageous - and somewhat man-crazy friend – Renaya, to the dominant and manipulative therapist, Lynelle, Afflicted is very easily a movie waiting to happen, which in my opinion, would easily rival anything that Tyler Perry is doing on the big screen.
